The Secretary for Education, Dr Choi Yuk-lin, attended the prize presentation ceremony cum exhibition for Light Up a Bright Future with Your Child video production competition on parent education, to present prizes to the award-winning parents and students of four categories, and kicked off the roving exhibition titled "Exhibition on Winning Entries of Positive Parent Campaign", today (November 26).

The competition is one of the key promotional activities of the Positive Parent Campaign (Campaign) and also an activity to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The competition aims at helping parents and the public understand the importance of the happy and healthy development of children. The online voting for "Most Liked Award" of the competition rolled out earlier was well received by the public with 450 000 votes from four categories.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Choi emphasised that children are the future masters of a society. Only when the children grow up happily and healthily can they become an excellent new generation. Parents play a pivotal role in supporting their children's learning, fostering their positive values and facilitating their whole-person development. The Education Bureau (EDB) has all along been promoting positive parent education through extensive and diversified channels to foster parents' positive thinking and promote the proper ways and attitudes to nurture children. Meanwhile, the EDB has commissioned post-secondary institutions to develop a curriculum framework on parent education for kindergartens and primary and secondary schools in phases, with a view to equipping parents with the knowledge and skills necessary for bringing up children at different stages.

Dr Choi encouraged parents to develop a close bond with their children and enhance the parent-child relationship through play. She also appealed for parents' active participation in the activities under the Campaign and their promotion of these meaningful activities to other parents.

The event was held at the Education Bureau Kowloon Tong Education Services Centre. Other attending guests included the Chairman of the Committee on Home-School Co-operation, Mr Eugene Fong; an experienced parent-child and family educator, Ms Shirley Loo; the Chairperson of the Kowloon Region School Heads Association, Ms Cheung Yee-may; the Chairman of the New Territories School Heads Association, Mr Yau Siu-hung; and the Vice-chairperson of the Hong Kong Island School Heads Association, Mr Pang Yiu-kwan.

To showcase the winning entries in the competition and masterpieces collected from various activities of the Campaign, the EDB will hold a roving exhibition in MOSTown, Olympian City and Star Ferry Pier in Central this December. Distinguished videos will be played, and still photos and winning designs collected from previous activities will be displayed to further promote the message of the Campaign. Members of the public are welcome to visit the exhibition venues or the activity webpage (www.parent.edu.hk/en/article/orpa2022-dec) on the Smart Parent Net website for details.
