Three quarantine/holding centres to commence operation

     The Social Welfare Department (SWD) announced today (November 23) that, in light of the rising trend of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the community and residential care homes (RCHs), the quarantine centres (QCs) at Tsuen Wan West Sports Centre and Lung Sum Avenue Sports Centre will commence operation on November 29 and November 30 respectively, while the holding centre (HC) at Choi Wing Road Sports Centre will commence operation on December 2.
           
     With 119 and 128 beds respectively, the QCs at Tsuen Wan West Sports Centre and Lung Sum Avenue Sports Centre will receive elderly persons who are identified as close contacts in the RCHs. The HC at Choi Wing Road Sports Centre, which provides 144 beds, will receive elderly COVID-19 patients who are asymptomatic or showing mild symptoms. All three centres provide basic meals and nursing support without charge.

     The teams or government department which will provide care services and medical surveillance/support at the centres are set out in the table below:

     The SWD expresses heartfelt gratitude to the above teams for their swift support for the centres.

     The SWD will continue to monitor the epidemic situation closely. If necessary, and upon liaison with relevant bureaux and departments, the SWD will swiftly mobilise resources and prepare venues to activate other holding centres or quarantine facilities.
