Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected methamphetamine and suspected heroin worth about $16 million (with photo)

Through risk assessment, Customs on that day inspected a consolidated container, declared as carrying goods including foodstuffs and electronic parts, transported by sea from Vietnam to Hong Kong, at Kwai Chung Customhouse. Upon inspection, Customs officers found that there were four different consignments inside, of which one of them had about 19kg of suspected methamphetamine and about 6kg of suspected heroin concealed inside. The packaging of seasoning powders and skincare products were used as a camouflage, with the drugs concealed inside the packaging bags and boxes.
After a follow-up investigation and two controlled delivery operations, Customs officers yesterday (November 21) arrested a 51-year-old man, suspected to be connected with the case, in Tai Kok Tsui.
An investigation is ongoing.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
