Public hospitals daily update on COVID-19 cases

As at 0.00am today (November 21), a total of 2 511 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 are currently hospitalised for treatment, including 306 new patients. Currently, there are 235 patients requiring oxygen therapy and eight patients requiring ventilator support. Among the patients staying in isolation facilities, 641 patients are in isolation wards, 200 patients are in second-tier isolation wards and 549 patients are in the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre, of which 219 in total are new patients. There are six newly reported critical patients and 11 newly reported serious patients. There are a total of 44 patients in critical condition and 60 are in serious condition, of which 13 critical patients are receiving intensive care. Moreover, there are 210 patients who have recovered, including 154 patients who have been discharged. In addition, 11 patients who passed away in public hospitals were reported.
In the past week, there were 299 COVID-19 patients who reside in residential care homes for the elderly (RCHEs) admitted to hospitals. The number is higher than the 241 and 85 RCHE COVID-19 patients admitted in the second and the first week of November respectively. The Hospital Authority (HA) is very concerned and will closely monitor the situation. The HA will keep close communication with relevant government departments and RCHEs so as to enhance medical support to RCHEs through the outreach teams.
In the fifth wave of the epidemic, there are 84 425 patients who have recovered so far, including 84 027 patients who have been discharged. And since early 2020, there are 96 805 patients who have recovered, including 96 407 patients who have been discharged.
The HA will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.
