Eddie (the Director of Broadcasting, Mr Eddie Cheung), Mabel (the Director of Corporate Social Responsibility of South China Morning Post, Ms Mabel Sieh), distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,
Good evening! I am delighted to join you all to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Operation Santa Claus, a hugely popular fund-raiser that drives and leads the spirit of giving to bring people together to brighten Hong Kong's community.
This year, the campaign slogan is "Sports and ALL". I encourage everyone - individuals, companies, schools and community groups – to team up with Operation Santa Claus by contributing their money, time, efforts and fund-raising ideas to support this charity drive.
Sports, in all its forms, foster important values including teamwork, respect, fair play, and inclusion. These are values not just at the heart of Operation Santa Claus, but also at the heart of our caring community. The Government holds dear these values, which underline our goal, as what the Chief Executive said in his Policy Address, to build a more promising and united Hong Kong where people enjoy living and working.
I commend RTHK Radio 3 and the South China Morning Post on organising Operation Santa Claus, which continues to spread the spirit of giving for the benefit of citizens in need across our city.
With these two of our leading English-language media organisations driving the campaign, Operation Santa Claus effectively shines a light on the valuable charitable work that is happening in Hong Kong. And by raising the media profile of charity groups, it helps to encourage listeners and readers to extend the spirit of giving beyond the festive season.
I am confident that, by bringing donors and beneficiaries together, this year's Operation Santa Claus will inspire another year of resounding success. Thank you!
