******************************************************************************************
The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels (HKETO, Brussels) held a business seminar in Milan, Italy, on November 16 (Milan time), followed by a networking reception, in co-operation with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) to promote opportunities in the Hong Kong health and medical sector to Italian entrepreneurs.

This was the second event organised by HKETO, Brussels in Europe, riding on the Asia Summit on Global Health staged in Hong Kong on November 10 and 11. A similar business seminar was held in Madrid, Spain, on November 15 (Madrid time).

The Deputy Representative of HKETO, Brussels, Mr Henry Tsoi, outlined Hong Kong's policy priorities in respect of the health and medical sector as unveiled in the Chief Executive's annual Policy Address, noting that technology would play an important role.

He said that Hong Kong, already the world's leading fundraising hub for biotech companies, is emerging as a thriving destination for healthtech firms, thanks to its well-developed start-up and scale-up ecosystem.

An Italian entrepreneur, the Chief Executive Officer of the start-up Pedius, Lorenzo Di Ciaccio, shared his Hong Kong success story in the seminar. The company, which created a mobile application with advanced speech recognition technology that enables deaf people to independently manage their phone conversations, has established a regional office in Hong Kong.

Other speakers were the Director, Italy, Cyprus, Greece and Malta of the HKTDC, Mr Gianluca Mirante, and Consultant (Milan), InvestHK, Mr Stefano De Paoli.
