******************************************************************************
Following is the speech by the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Kevin Yeung, at the Opening Ceremony of Yayoi Kusama: 1945 to Now today (November 10):

Mr Tang (Chairman of the Board of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, Mr Henry Tang), Mr Chan (Chairman of M+ Board, Mr Bernard Chan), distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

Good evening. It is my great pleasure to join you tonight at the opening ceremony of the first special exhibition of M+ museum, featuring the works of world-renowned artist Yayoi Kusama.

I am pleased to see M+ stepping into its first anniversary and more so to witness the museum's remarkable achievement of receiving over 2 million visitors within the first year since its opening.

The West Kowloon Cultural District is the most important single investment of the HKSAR (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region) Government in arts and culture. Following the opening of the two world class museums - M+ museum and the Hong Kong Palace Museum, the District has quickly established itself as a new cultural landmark earning worldwide acclaim.

As stated in the Chief Executive's latest Policy Address, the Government is committed to fostering the cultural development of Hong Kong to expedite its progression into an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange, a grand vision outlined in the National 14th Five-Year Plan.

We will make every effort to reach the goal, and continue to work closely with the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and seize upon the District's unique strengths to showcase both traditional and contemporary elements and to promote Chinese culture to the world, tell the good stories of Hong Kong.

Last but not least, may I express thanks to all the institutions and corporates who have given support to this special exhibition, as well as the M+ team and the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority. I wish the event every success and all of you an enjoyable evening.
