German pianist Igor Levit debuts in Hong Kong this month to perform Beethoven classics
**************************************************************************************
Sought-after pianist Igor Levit will perform in Hong Kong for the first time at a piano recital of the Encore Series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) this month. The German pianist will delight local music lovers with Beethoven classics, showcasing his extraordinary charm and outstanding pianistic technique.

Levit will perform, with his unique interpretation, four classic piano sonatas written by Beethoven in different compositional periods. The first half of the recital will feature "Piano Sonata No. 17 in D minor, Op. 31 No. 2, 'The Tempest'" and "Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13, 'Pathétique'" that expresses one's inner emotions. A vibe shift will come in the second half with the mirthful "Piano Sonata No. 25 in G, Op. 79", and "Piano Sonata No. 21 in C, Op. 53, 'Waldstein'" that shows vitality, to conclude the recital on a high note.

Levit was the youngest participant to win the second prize and three other awards at the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in Tel Aviv in 2005. He was named "Artist of the Year" and received the Instrumental Award for his album "Beethoven: The Complete Piano Sonatas", which is his first complete recording of Beethoven's piano sonatas, by Gramophone magazine in 2020. Levit has performed at the world's most renowned concert halls and festivals, and is a regular soloist with the world's leading orchestras, such as the Cleveland Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Receiving acclaim all over the world, his performance was once complimented by The Telegraph newspaper as "speechless with amazement and admiration".
