International Ethnic Cultural Performances to celebrate 25th anniversary of establishment of HKSAR (with photos)

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will hold the International Ethnic Cultural Performances on November 13 (Sunday) from 1pm to 5.30pm at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). The event will showcase the artistry and cultures of different parts of the world through a variety of performances and activities. The International Ethnic Cultural Performances is an upgraded version of the annual Asian Ethnic Cultural Performances. Members of the public are welcome to join and admission is free.
 
​     The International Ethnic Cultural Performances is under the exclusive sponsorship of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), and is one of the many initiatives supported by the HKJC's approved donation of $630 million to the Government of the HKSAR to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, demonstrating that the HKJC is resolute in pursuing its purpose of acting continuously for the betterment of society, all in support of creating stronger communities together.
 
​     Featuring the theme of "The Art of Masks", the International Ethnic Cultural Performances will display different traditional cultural masks such as celebration and dance masks. These include masks of the Bengali New Year celebration, Japanese Kagura masks, Cambodian Lakhon Khol masks, the Colombian mask of the Barranquilla Carnival, Thai Khon masks and more.
 
​     Apart from masks on display, there will be traditional ethnic stage performances and fringe activity booths, including handicrafts and costume displays, dance workshops, mask drawing, photo taking and more to introduce the customs and cultures of different places.
 
     In addition to the live performances mentioned above, the International Ethnic Cultural Performances will also produce three online programmes featuring traditional ethnic performances, mask cultures and highlights of live performances, to be broadcast on November 13, 20 and 27 respectively at the Community Programmes Offices (CPO) website (www.cpo.gov.hk/event/en-iecp-2022).
 
​     Twenty-three countries and territories will participate in the event, including Hong Kong; Bangladesh; Cambodia; Colombia; the Dominican Republic; Hungary; Indonesia; Iran; Japan; Kazakhstan; Korea; Kuwait; Laos; Malaysia; Nepal; Nigeria; the Philippines; Saudi Arabia; Singapore; South Africa; Thailand; the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela. ​     To safeguard public health, visitors are required to take appropriate prevention and control measures by wearing their own masks (including when taking photos), being subject to temperature checks before admission and maintaining an appropriate social distance.
 
​     In order to comply with the requirements stipulated in the Prevention and Control of Disease (Requirements and Directions) (Business and Premises) Regulation (Cap. 599F) and relevant requirements of administrative instructions, participants are required to scan the "LeaveHomeSafe" venue QR code with their mobile phones/other mobile devices before being allowed to enter the venue for necessary contact tracing if a confirmed case is found. In accordance with the Prevention and Control of Disease (Vaccine Pass) Regulation (Cap. 599L) and relevant requirements of administrative instructions, all persons entering the venue must comply with the relevant requirement of the Vaccine Pass. According to the latest requirement on the Vaccine Pass announced by the Government, all persons with their Vaccine Pass QR codes displayed in red or amber are not allowed to enter the venue. 
 
​     Crowd control measures will also be implemented at the venue and admission will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Admission may be suspended taking into account the actual situation. Visitors are urged to follow the instructions of the staff on-site.
