Public hospitals daily update on COVID-19 cases

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     As at 0.00am today (October 26), a total of 1 908 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 are currently hospitalised for treatment, including 224 new patients. Currently, there are 192 patients requiring oxygen therapy and 13 patients requiring ventilator support. Among the patients staying in isolation facilities, 403 patients are in isolation wards, 120 patients are in second-tier isolation wards and 491 patients are in the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre, of which 139 in total are new patients. There are six newly reported critical patients and six newly reported serious patients. There are a total of 26 patients in critical condition and 40 are in serious condition, of which 10 critical patients are receiving intensive care. Moreover, there are 256 patients who have recovered, including 222 patients who have been discharged. In addition, seven patients who passed away in public hospitals were reported.

     In the fifth wave of the epidemic, there are 78 390 patients who have recovered so far, including 78 040 patients who have been discharged. And since early 2020, there are 90 770 patients who have recovered, including 90 420 patients who have been discharged.

     In addition, two staff members from the Radiology and Organ Imaging Department in United Christian Hospital tested positive for COVID-19 on October 25. The hospital infection control team conducted contact tracing and eight more staff members from the department tested positive. Six of the confirmed staff members have mild symptoms. Contact tracing is still underway, and the department's service has not been affected. The hospital has conducted thorough cleaning and disinfection operations in the department concerned and strengthened the infection control measures.

     The Hospital Authority will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.
