Public hospitals daily update on COVID-19 cases

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     As at 0.00am today (October 24), a total of 1 955 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 are currently hospitalised for treatment, including 253 new patients. Currently, there are 178 patients requiring oxygen therapy and nine patients requiring ventilator support. Among the patients staying in isolation facilities, 464 patients are in isolation wards, 128 patients are in second-tier isolation wards and 494 patients are in the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre, of which 176 in total are new patients. There are five newly reported critical patients and seven newly reported serious patients. There are a total of 32 patients in critical condition and 48 are in serious condition, of which 11 critical patients are receiving intensive care. Moreover, there are 155 patients who have recovered, including 126 patients who have been discharged. In addition, seven patients who passed away in public hospitals were reported.

     In the fifth wave of the epidemic, there are 77 883 patients who have recovered so far, including 77 534 patients who have been discharged. And since early 2020, there are 90 263 patients who have recovered, including 89 914 patients who have been discharged.

     A 77-year-old male patient in a palliative care and hospice ward of the department of clinical oncology in Tuen Mun Hospital tested positive for COVID-19 on October 20. The hospital commenced contact tracing investigation. Four more male patients (aged 51 to 79) in the same ward also tested positive. The hospital is investigating the linkage among of the cases concerned.

     In addition, four patients (aged 39 to 64) in a male ward for intellectual disability of Castle Peak Hospital tested positive for COVID-19 today. The hospital is investigating the linkage of the cases concerned.

     All patients are being treated under isolation with stable condition. Admission and visiting arrangements for the wards concerned has been suspended. Thorough cleaning and disinfection operations have been conducted in the areas concerned, while infection control measures have been enhanced.

     The Hospital Authority will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.
