"M" Mark status awarded to Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2022

The following is issued on behalf of the Major Sports Events Committee:

The Major Sports Events Committee (MSEC) has awarded "M" Mark status to the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2022, which will be held from November 4 to 6.

The Chairman of the MSEC, Dr Karl Kwok, said today (October 24) that this event, like all other "M" Mark events, would add colour and vibrancy to Hong Kong and help attract more visitors.

"The Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2022 is the first major international sport event awarded 'M' Mark status this year. The three-day event is expected to attract a large number of fans to support and watch the games at the stadium each day. This will, once again, demonstrate to the world Hong Kong's capability of organising major sports events under extremely challenging circumstances and generate positive publicity for Hong Kong, thereby strengthening Hong Kong's position as a centre for major international sports events," Dr Kwok said.

The "M" Mark System was launched in 2004 to help local national sports associations organise more major sports events and nurture them into sustainable undertakings. Sports events meeting the assessment criteria will be granted "M" Mark status by the MSEC. Funding support will also be provided to some event organisers.

Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens was cancelled in 2020 and 2021. The event this year was also postponed from April to November.
