CSSA caseload for September 2022

     The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in September showed a drop of 1 069 cases, representing a decrease of 0.5 per cent compared with that of August, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (October 20).

     The total CSSA caseload at the end of September stood at 209 298 (see attached table), with a total of 291 927 recipients.

     Analysed by case nature, low-earnings cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 1.7 per cent to 1 953 cases. Single parent cases decreased by 1.5 per cent to 22 771 cases. Old age cases dropped by 0.4 per cent to 117 624 cases.

     Unemployment cases decreased by 0.4 per cent on a month-to-month basis to 18 480 cases. The figure represented an increase of about 46.8 per cent in comparison with that of January 2020 when Hong Kong just started to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The average number of applications for unemployment cases in July to September 2022 was 465 per month, representing a decrease of 3.9 per cent from that in June to August 2022.

     Both ill-health cases and permanent disability cases remained steady at 27 190 cases and 17 350 cases respectively.
