The Chairman of the Steering Committee on Promotion of Vocational and Professional Education and Training and Qualifications Framework, Dr Daniel Yip, welcomed the various new initiatives announced in "The Chief Executive's 2022 Policy Address" today (October 19), which further promote the development of vocational and professional education and training (VPET) in Hong Kong, as well as the strategy of fostering industry-institution collaboration and diversified development in strengthening the promotion of VPET.

The initiatives announced in the Policy Address include expanding the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors, exploring the introduction of more applied degree programmes, expediting the development of the Vocational Qualifications Pathway under the Qualifications Framework, launching the Diploma of Applied Education Programme, and enriching applied learning and workplace experience of secondary students. The Policy Address has also announced organising an array of activities to enhance the public's positive understanding of VPET and promote its professional image, so as to make VPET an attractive and valued progression pathway.

Dr Yip said, "The new initiatives announced in the Policy Address will further promote VPET as a pathway parallel to conventional academic education, providing diversified learning and employment opportunities for young people. We also support the Government to adopt the strategy of fostering industry-institution collaboration to further promote the partnership between education institutions and the business sector, so as to raise the recognition of VPET, and provide suitable talent for different sectors in Hong Kong."

The Steering Committee will continue to maintain close communication and co-operation with the Government, with a view to adopting a more innovative approach in strengthening the publicity on VPET and fostering closer industry partnerships.
