The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco (HKETO San Francisco) sponsored LAAPFF Presents: Hong Kong Generations of Cinema, a special one-day showcase of Hong Kong films, on October 15 (Los Angeles time) at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Grand Avenue, Los Angeles.

Curated by the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF), Hong Kong Generations of Cinema celebrated the diverse storytelling talent that has come out of Hong Kong, and the uplifting impact it has had on audiences all over the globe. The lineup featured filmmaking from different decades, including the 1993 film "Heroic Trio", directed by Johnnie To, starring Hong Kong cinema icons Maggie Cheung, Michelle Yeoh, and Anita Mui. Also shown was the 2019 film "Twilight's Kiss", a quiet portrayal of a relationship between two men in their twilight years, directed by Ray Yeung, and a programme of short films featuring works from directors Natalie Chao, Linhan Zhang, Wong Kar-wai, Kristi Hoi, and Esther Cheung.

Delivering remarks before the screening of the short-film programme, the Director of HKETO San Francisco, Ms Jacko Tsang, thanked the LAAPFF for their passion for Hong Kong films. "The carefully curated programme demonstrates the timeless charm of the films from our city, as Hong Kong has made a unique contribution to the world of filmmaking. There are a variety of unique genres and talents that abound, as demonstrated by the diverse background of the directors of the five short films in the programme," Ms Tsang said.

She added, "Hong Kong has been making substantial investments to promote the development of the film industry. The Film Development Fund, set up in 1999, has supported filmmakers in Hong Kong and nurtured talent in the film industry. With a fresh injection of over US$120 million in 2019, there is a strong commitment from the Hong Kong Government to support the ongoing development of the city's film industry."

The showcase was well received, with a full house of attendees from the movie industry and Hong Kong communities in Los Angeles.
