Public hospitals daily update on COVID-19 cases

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     As at 0.00am today (October 16), a total of 1 666 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 are currently hospitalised for treatment, including 241 new patients. Among the patients staying in isolation facilities, 400 patients are in isolation wards, 117 patients are in second-tier isolation wards, 435 patients are in the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre, of which 146 in total are new patients. There are eight newly reported critical patients and 10 newly reported serious patients. There are a total of 20 patients in critical condition and 25 are in serious condition, of which eight critical patients are receiving intensive care. Moreover, there are 183 patients who have recovered, including 145 patients who have been discharged. In addition, five patients who passed away in public hospitals were reported.
      
     In the fifth wave of the epidemic, there are 76 213 patients who have recovered so far, including 75 873 patients who have been discharged. And since early 2020, there are 88 593 patients who have recovered, including 88 253 patients who have been discharged.
      
     In addition, two patients (aged 50 and 60) in a female general adult psychiatric ward of Castle Peak Hospital tested positive for COVID-19 on October 14. The hospital commenced contact tracing investigation and found one more 39-year-old patient tested positive on October 15. Meanwhile, a 70-year-old patient in a male forensic psychiatric ward tested positive for COVID-19 on October 13. The hospital commenced contact tracing investigation and found two more patients (aged 35 and 38) tested positive on October 14. The hospital is investigating the linkage among the cases concerned.
      
     Moreover, a 68-year-old patient in an infirmary male ward of Cheshire Home, Shatin tested positive for COVID-19 on October 15. The hospital commenced contact tracing investigation and found two more patients, aged 51 and 68 who stayed in the same ward tested positive. The hospital is investigating the linkage of the cases concerned.
      
     All patients are being treated under isolation with stable condition. Admission and visiting arrangements for the wards concerned have been suspended. Thorough cleaning and disinfection operations have been conducted in the areas concerned, while infection control measures have been enhanced.
      
     The Hospital Authority will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.
