Public hospitals daily update on COVID-19 cases

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     ​As at 0.00am today (October 15), a total of 1 615 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 are currently hospitalised for treatment, including 216 new patients. Among the patients staying in isolation facilities, 400 patients are in isolation wards, 115 patients are in second-tier isolation wards, 431 patients are in the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre, of which 173 in total are new patients. There are eight newly reported critical patients and three newly reported serious patients. There are a total of 16 patients in critical condition and 24 are in serious condition, of which eight critical patients are receiving intensive care. Moreover, there are 209 patients who have recovered, including 167 patients who have been discharged. In addition, seven patients who passed away in public hospitals were reported.

     In the fifth wave of the epidemic, there are 76 002 patients who have recovered so far, including 75 672 patients who have been discharged. And since early 2020, there are 88 382 patients who have recovered, including 88 052 patients who have been discharged.

     In addition, a 44-year-old patient in an infirmary female ward of Cheshire Home, Shatin tested positive for COVID-19 on October 14. The hospital commenced contact tracing investigation and found six more patients (aged 52 to 99) who stayed in the same ward tested positive. The hospital is investigating the linkage of the cases concerned.

     Moreover, a 51-year-old patient in a male long-stay ward of Cheshire Home, Chung Hom Kok tested positive for COVID-19 on October 12. The hospital commenced contact tracing and found four more patients (aged 60 to 73) tested positive on October 13 and 14. 

     All patients are being treated under isolation with stable condition. Admission, patient transfer and special visiting arrangements for the wards concerned has been suspended. Thorough cleaning and disinfection operations have been conducted in the areas concerned, while infection control measures have been enhanced.

     The Hospital Authority will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.
