Judicial appointments

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

     The Judiciary today (October 13) announced the appointment of Mr Philip Chan Chee-fai and Mr Tsang Chung-yiu as Permanent Magistrates. Both appointments are made by the Chief Executive on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission. They will take effect on October 14, 2022.
 
     Further judicial appointments will be announced in due course.

     The biographical notes of the appointees are as follows:

Mr Philip Chan Chee-fai

     Mr Chan was born in Hong Kong. He completed the Common Professional Examination and obtained an LL.B. from Manchester Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom and the University of Hong Kong School of Professional and Continuing Education in 2004 and 2005 respectively. He further obtained his P.C.LL. from the University of Hong Kong in 2006. He was called to the Bar in Hong Kong in 2007 and has been in private practice from the same year.
 
Mr Tsang Chung-yiu

     Mr Tsang was born in Hong Kong in 1986. He obtained a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree from the University of Hong Kong in 2007. He further obtained an LL.B. and a P.C.LL., both from the University of Hong Kong, in 2009 and 2010 respectively. He was called to the Bar in Hong Kong in 2012 and has been in private practice from the same year.
