The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) has set up the Smart Government Pavilion at the four-day International ICT Expo starting today (October 13) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. A number of technology solutions closely related to people's daily lives, as well as the Government's efforts to promote smart city development are showcased at the Pavilion. Taking a valuable opportunity of the country's recruitment of payload specialists for the first time in Hong Kong, a space-themed corner is also on display to enhance the public's understanding and interests in aerospace technology.

The Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Professor Sun Dong, accompanied by the Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Victor Lam, visited the Smart Government Pavilion. Professor Sun acknowledged the efforts of various government departments in promoting smart government, and encouraged colleagues to foster closer collaboration with industries to propel the innovation and technology development of Hong Kong.

"The Government is committed to developing Hong Kong into a smart city which is ideal for living and working, and enhancing the quality of life of the public through the application of technology. The Smart Government Innovation Lab under the OGCIO has been playing an important 'bridging' role to facilitate collaboration between industry and government departments to help introduce the use of different technologies in public services. The Pavilion displays solutions covering various aspects of people's daily lives as well as important digital infrastructure facilities of the Government, such as 'iAM Smart', the Next Generation Government Cloud and the Big Data Analytics Platform. I hope that members of the public can enjoy the convenience brought about by the advancement of technology, which in turn increases their sense of gain and well-being," Professor Sun said.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, a record-breaking 23 government departments and public organisations are participating in this year's Smart Government Pavilion, which is themed "Smarter・Hong Kong", exhibiting more than 40 technology solutions relating to the promotion of smart city development and enhancement of public services. Some exhibits incorporate interactive elements for visitors to experience the adopted technologies personally. With the participation in this annual signature event, which facilitates exchanges among local industries and exhibitors from the Mainland as well as different countries and regions, the OGCIO will continue its mission of promoting smart government development.

Highlights of the seven zones of the Smart Government Pavilion include:

Smart Mobility: The Traffic Data Analytics System, which combines real-time and past traffic and weather data to forecast journey times in the next 90 minutes; and innovative technology solutions to enhance traffic management, such as the Internet of Things sensors at non-metered on-street parking spaces, are showcased.

Smart Living: The Wired and Wireless Automatic Meter Reading System, which improves the efficiency of reading water meters; the City Dashboard, which enables the public to grasp city information; and the important digital infrastructure "iAM Smart" are featured. A registration service counter is also set up to help visitors register or upgrade to "iAM Smart +", a version which includes a digital signing function.

Smart Airport: The "Flight Token" which makes self-check-ins for departing passengers possible through biometric authentication, and the 5G Autonomous Electric Tractor and Autonomous Patrol Car which are operated through the enterprise 5G network are displayed. The autonomous patrol car is equipped with radars, cameras, a global positioning system and image analytics technology to assist with patrols along the runway.

Smart Environment: Showcases the Smart Toilet Pilot Programme which collects relevant data through the Government-Wide Internet-of-Things Network to monitor the usage of public toilets, environmental parameters and usage of consumables in a timely manner; and the smart recycling bins, which makes it more convenient to recycle by automatically measuring and recording the weight of recyclables, including waste paper, metal and plastic.

Smart Government: Different infrastructure projects that facilitate the development of digital government including the Next Generation Government Cloud and the Big Data Analytics Platform are showcased. Also featured are the Contactless e-Channel service which makes use of facial verification technology to enable visitors to perform self-service immigration clearances; simulation training using the 4D Immersive CAVE system; and the Common Spatial Data Infrastructure which is available for use by academia and the public free of charge.

Smart Village: The hill fire surveillance system, which enhances the accuracy of hill fire monitoring; the Telehealth Booth of Heung Yee Kuk that helps residents in remote areas receive tele-consultation services; and the real-time tracking and monitoring system for dump trucks used by the Civil Engineering and Development Department to strengthen environmental management are featured.

Combating COVID-19 by I&T: Various anti-epidemic measures are showcased using a 3D holographic imaging system, including the "StayHomeSafe" mobile app and electronic wristbands, and the "LeaveHomeSafe" mobile app which assists in keeping visit records and showing of the Vaccine Pass.

The International ICT Expo is being held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from today to October 16. Besides the Smart Government Pavilion, the OGCIO has also set up the Hong Kong Innovation Pavilion at the same venue to showcase a series of industry award-winning entries in public competitions including the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2021 and the "Maker in China" SME Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Contest 2019, 2021 and 2022 - Hong Kong Chapter, with a view to encouraging and inspiring local industries and practitioners to develop more innovative solutions.
