LCSD's "Movies to GO" series to explore connections between Hong Kong and Thailand movies (with photo)
******************************************************************************************
The Hong Kong Film Archive (HKFA) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will partner with the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Hong Kong to present a new "Movies to GO" series under the theme of "Border Crossings in Hong Kong Cinema - Thailand". The movies "Flame in Ashes (aka Underground Sparks)" (1958) and "The Killer" (1989) will be screened at the HKFA Cinema on November 6 to explore the cross-border connections between Hong Kong and Thailand in the film market.

The suspense and gangster movie "Flame in Ashes" was shot entirely in Thailand, making it a rare Hong Kong film that had recorded Bangkok scenery of the 1950s. The film also won three prestigious awards in Thailand.

"The Killer" was one of the classics directed by famous Hong Kong director John Woo, allowing him to enter the international film market successfully. The martial "bromance" portrayed in the movie has influenced the style and development of some Thai movies. It was also chosen by the HKFA as one of the "100 Must-See Hong Kong Movies".

"Flame in Ashes" is in Mandarin while "The Killer" is in Cantonese. Both films are with Chinese and English subtitles.

The screening of "Flame in Ashes" will be accompanied by a post-screening talk with Joyce Yang as the speaker, while the screening of "The Killer" will be accompanied by a post-screening talk with Yang and Dr Dickson Cheung as the speakers. The talks will be conducted in Cantonese. Admission is free.

Tickets priced at $45 will be available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk) tomorrow (October 14). For credit card telephone bookings, please call 2111 5999. For programme details, please call 2739 2139 or visit www.filmarchive.gov.hk/en_US/web/hkfa/pe-event-2022-thai.html.
