***************************************************************
The Deputy Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mrs Vicki Kwok, led the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) delegation to Helsinki, Finland, to attend the World Cities Culture Forum Summit 2022 from October 5 to 7 (Helsinki time) to promote Hong Kong's new positioning as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange, as set out in the National 14th Five-Year Plan.

During the Summit, apart from introducing the HKSAR Government's strategies to enhance Hong Kong's new positioning as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange, Mrs Kwok also participated in a session on the relationship between arts technology, cultural life and place-making strategy. She presented various projects that integrate technologies with culture and art, including the City in Time tourism project, Design District Hong Kong and the Yim Tin Tsai Arts Festival.

"To step up our efforts to enhance Hong Kong's new positioning under the National 14th Five-Year Plan, the HKSAR Government has worked in several directions, including actively promoting and supporting the application of technology by providing support in terms of policies and resources to enhance the capacity and capability of the arts and cultural sector. In terms of resources, a total of HK$100 million has been earmarked through various funds or schemes under relevant policy bureaux of the Government for applications by those who are interested in the promotion of arts technology. The Government will continue to allocate more resources in arts technology and to upgrade the facilities at the performing arts venues of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to enable arts groups to apply technology more extensively in their performances to enrich audiences' experiences," Mrs Kwok said.

The delegation also participated in a session featuring cultural projects and youth engagement, and presented the Arts-in-School Partnership Scheme launched by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. The Scheme aims to foster collaboration between local arts organisations/artists and schools, encourage school operators to lease their premises and facilities to arts organisations/artists for artistic creation and various arts activities, and bring arts into the school campus.

The Summit was organised by the World Cities Culture Forum (WCCF), founded in 2012 with 38 global cities from six continents as members to date. The HKSAR Government joined the WCCF in 2013 to promote the culture of Hong Kong through exchanges and sharing of cultural policies with other member cities.

To strengthen Hong Kong's connections with overseas arts and culture organisations, Mrs Kwok also visited the 59th International Art Exhibition under the Venice Biennale in Venice, Italy. She met with the Director of International Relations, Ms Annalisa Bisson; the Director of the Unit of Cultural Heritage and Services, Department of Cultural Heritage, Cultural Activities and Sport, Ms Valentina Galan; and other representatives from the Veneto Region Government, from October 8 to 10 (Venice time).

At the meeting, Mrs Kwok shared with them details of Hong Kong's arts and cultural development and the HKSAR Government's strategies to enhance Hong Kong's new positioning as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange under the National 14th Five-Year Plan. The delegation also explored collaboration opportunities between Hong Kong and Venice. Mrs Kwok will return to Hong Kong today (October 11).
