Home Affairs Department continues to tackle hygiene black spots (with photos)
*****************************************************************************
The Home Affairs Department (HAD) said today (October 7) that its 18 District Offices (DOs) had been conducting a series of cleaning operations and publicity work in support of the Government Programme on Tackling Hygiene Black Spots launched by the District Matters Co-ordination Task Force. The cleaning operations and publicity work were launched in a bid to tackle hygiene black spots and enhance community engagement for improving the cityscape of Hong Kong.

From July to September 2022, DOs have conducted cleaning activities, including those in co-ordination with other departments, at over 220 hygiene black spots across the territory. DOs have also co-ordinated joint operations for removal of abandoned vehicles with relevant departments at more than 60 public back alleys, resulting in the removal of over 220 abandoned vehicles during the period. In addition, DOs have arranged cleaning services of common areas at over 880 "three-nil" buildings, in order to demonstrate good building management and promote the message of keeping buildings and the environment clean. DOs have also co-ordinated with relevant departments to carry out joint enforcement actions at over 20 hygiene black spots identified with illegal extensions of businesses by shops leading to obstructions, with a view to resolving the problem of shop front extensions more effectively through inter-departmental collaboration and publicity work. Moreover, the HAD has continued to step up regular cleaning work at venues under its management including community halls/community centres and Home Affairs Enquiry Centres, etc.

The HAD will continue to support the Government Programme on Tackling Hygiene Black Spots and endeavor to take forward environmental improvement measures with relevant departments for building a clean and hygienic environment. The Government appeals for the joint efforts of members of the public to enhance the city's environmental hygiene and cityscape.
