TD reminds public to make early arrangements for International Driving Permit application
*****************************************************************************************
     In view of the recent surge in the number of applicants using counter services at Licensing Offices and the increasing demand for the appointment booking service for applications for the International Driving Permit, the Transport Department (TD) today (October 7) reminded members of the public to submit their applications as early as possible by post or via drop-in box to avoid a longer than usual waiting time for counter services or application delay.

     Members of the public may submit applications by post to the Transport Department Kwun Tong Licensing Office, PO Box 68115, Kowloon East Post Office, or via drop-in boxes placed at the Licensing Offices from 9am to 5pm from Monday to Friday.

     Upon receipt of the application, the successfully applied International Driving Permit will normally be sent to the applicant by registered post within 10 working days if the submitted documents are in order.

     In addition to submitting the completed application form (form No. TD 51), the applicant should also provide the following documents:

  1. Hong Kong identity card;
  2. Two identical new recently taken photographs with a plain background, showing the full face without headwear. The size of the photographs must be 40 millimetres (width) X 50mm (height); and
  3. Proof of present address.

     The application fee for the International Driving Permit is $80. If applicants submit applications by post or via drop-in box, they should attach a cheque/cashier order made payable to either "The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region" or "The Government of the HKSAR" and crossed. Applicants must write down their name, the first four characters/digits of their identity document number and their daytime contact telephone number on the back of the cheque/cashier order. Cash and original Hong Kong identity cards should not be sent by post or via drop-in boxes.

     The TD appeals to members of the public who wish to submit their applications over the counters at Licensing Offices to book an appointment through the appointment booking service online by accessing www.gov.hk/en/residents/transport/drivinglicense/idpabs.htm or calling 3763 8080 to apply for an International Driving Permit at the designated counter of the selected Licensing Office to reduce the queuing time.
