Hong Kong Library Festival 2022 shares stories of Hong Kong libraries over 60 years
***************************************************************

The Hong Kong Library Festival 2022, organised by the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), will be held from tomorrow (October 8) to November 27. Through interactive multimedia exhibitions, talks, cultural and arts programmes and online activities, the festival, with the theme of "Joyful Reading with You for 60 Years", will lead readers to travel around the world of reading and let members of the public learn about public libraries' development and changes through sharing the libraries' stories from the past 60 years.

In collaboration with multiple organisations and reading partners, the festival will host various activities in the Hong Kong Central Library (HKCL), district libraries and a thematic website. Some of the programme videos will also be uploaded to the HKPL YouTube channel and the LCSD Edutainment Channel (www.lcsd.gov.hk/edutainment/en/).

The highlight exhibition of the festival, the "READiscovery / LIBRARY" interactive multimedia exhibition, will be held at the Exhibition Gallery of the HKCL from October 29 to November 20. The exhibition, comprising six zones, will combine arts and technology and make use of interactive multimedia installations such as projection mapping, a digital interactive wall and motion sensors to review the development and changes of libraries at different times, allowing readers to learn more about libraries' diversified resources and services, and explore the diversity of reading.

Other highlight activities will include the "Joyful Good Read" online reading club to be hosted by two popular local authors, Miha and Yi Shu, to share with readers how reading is related to daily life; the "Shared Love of Reading" handicraft workshop, in which participants can learn how to make handicrafts such as aroma wax tablets and leatherware; and a series of subject talks on everyday life.

Various parent-child paired reading activities will also be held at the district libraries. In the "My Dream" storytelling performance, children can play a role in the story and experience different careers. In the parent-child story theatre activity, performers will invite readers to search for missing fairy tale characters. Tutors in an interactive story workshop will demonstrate the techniques of storytelling and make handicrafts with parents and children, allowing them to share the joy of reading.

All activities of the Hong Kong Library Festival are free of charge, but reservations are required for some programmes. Details are available on the HKPL's thematic website (www.hklibfest.gov.hk) and the "Reading is Joyful" Facebook page (www.facebook.com/readingisjoyful) and Instagram page (www.instagram.com/readingisjoyful).

In order to comply with the requirements stipulated in the Prevention and Control of Disease (Requirements and Directions) (Business and Premises) Regulation (Cap. 599F) and relevant requirements of administrative instructions, members of the public are required to scan the "LeaveHomeSafe" venue QR code with their mobile phones/other mobile devices before being allowed to enter the libraries for necessary contact tracing if a confirmed case is found. In accordance with the Prevention and Control of Disease (Vaccine Pass) Regulation (Cap. 599L) and relevant requirements of administrative instructions, all persons entering indoor venues under the management of the LCSD must comply with the relevant requirement of the Vaccine Pass. According to the latest requirement on the Vaccine Pass announced by the Government, all persons with their Vaccine Pass QR codes displayed in red or amber are not allowed to enter the public libraries under the management of the LCSD.
