FEHD orders three Causeway Bay restaurants to suspend business for 14 days
***************************************************************

The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered three restaurants in Causeway Bay to suspend business for 14 days as the operators repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation (FBR) by extending their business areas illegally.

The three restaurants, Cafe de idea, Delicious Thai and Tong Kee, are located on the ground floor of 19 Haven Street, the ground floor of Lei Wan Court of 33A Haven Street, and the ground floor of 15 Caroline Hill Road, Causeway Bay respectively. They were ordered to suspend business from today (October 6) to October 19.

"Two convictions for the above-mentioned breach were recorded against Cafe de idea and Delicious Thai in April and August this year, resulting in total fines of $3,500 and $11,000 levied by the court respectively. For Tong Kee, two convictions for the above-mentioned breach were recorded in June and August this year, leading to a total fine of $10,000 levied by the court. Thirty demerit points were registered against each of the three licensees under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in the 14-day licence suspensions," a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) said.

The licensees of Cafe de idea and Delicious Thai had records of two convictions for the same offence last May and September. Total fines of $8,500 and $7,700 were levied respectively. Thirty demerit points were also registered, leading to the licence suspensions for seven days last November. The licensee of Tong Kee also had a record of two convictions for the same offence last June and October. A total fine of $6,600 was levied. Thirty demerit points were also registered, leading to a licence suspension for seven days last December.

The spokesman reminded the licensees of food premises to comply with the FBR or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.

Licensed food premises are required to exhibit a sign, at a conspicuous place near the main entrance, indicating that the premises have been licensed. A list of licensed food premises is available on the FEHD's website (www.fehd.gov.hk/english/licensing/index.html).
