The Transport Department (TD) said today (October 3) that a driving instructor (DI) refresher course will be rolled out on November 3 to further enhance the quality of driving instructors. In order to allow sufficient time for eligible DIs to enrol and complete the respective course, the course will accept enrolment from eligible DIs starting from today.

     A spokesman of the TD said that the Road Traffic (Driving Licences) (Amendment) Regulation 2021 took effect from December 1, 2021, and there is a 24-month transition period under the provisions for a DI refresher course. Private driving instructors or restricted driving instructors of designated driving schools who renew their licences on or after December 1, 2023, shall complete the refresher course within three years preceding to the date of the DI licence renewal.

     The course is free of charge and its duration is eight hours. Participants who pass the course-end written assessment will receive a course certificate and may renew their DI licences.
