FEHD's cremation facility for abortuses, Home of Forever Love, to open next Monday (with photos/video)
***************************************************************

The Secretary for Environment and Ecology, Mr Tse Chin-wan, today (September 23) officiated at the opening ceremony for the Home of Forever Love, the pioneer cremation facility dedicated for abortuses of less than 24 weeks' gestation managed by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD).

The Home of Forever Love at Kwai Chung Crematorium will be commissioned next Monday (September 26) to provide free cremation service for abortuses.

Mr Tse said that the Government has all along been actively examining and implementing proposals to enhance the handling of abortuses in a holistic manner, including provision of facilities for keeping and cremating abortuses. To this end, the FEHD set up the Garden of Forever Love at Wo Hop Shek of Fanling and Cape Collinson of Chai Wan in April 2019 and August 2021, providing 300 and 400 abortus keeping spaces respectively, and will also set up a Garden of Forever Love at Shek Mun of Sha Tin, providing 300 abortus keeping spaces, for use by the public free of charge. Following the establishment of the above-mentioned abortus keeping facilities, the FEHD now set up the cremation facility for abortuses at Kwai Chung Crematorium.

The facility, named Home of Forever Love, symbolises everlasting care and love. In a scenic and tranquil environment, the  cremation facility houses two sets of small-scale installations for cremation, and provides a reception, a multi-purpose room for holding memorial activities, a garden where parents may scatter the cremated ashes of abortuses and four electronic kiosks for memorial activities.

Apart from accepting applications from parents of abortuses, the cremation facility will also handle cremation services for unclaimed abortuses from local public and private hospitals as well as other healthcare facilities, with a view to enhancing the current arrangement of disposing of abortuses as clinical waste.

For details of the cremation service for abortuses provided by the Government, please visit the FEHD's website (www.fehd.gov.hk). Application forms can be downloaded from the website and submitted together with the required documents in person or by post, fax or email to the FEHD.
