United Nations Sanctions (Democratic Republic of the Congo) Regulation 2019 (Amendment) Regulation 2022 gazetted

     The Government today (September 23) gazetted the United Nations Sanctions (Democratic Republic of the Congo) Regulation 2019 (Amendment) Regulation 2022 (the Amendment Regulation), which came into operation today.

     "The Amendment Regulation implements the decisions of the United Nations Security Council under Resolution 2641 in respect of sanctions against the Democratic Republic of the Congo," a Government spokesman said.

     The Amendment Regulation renews the following sanctions:
 
  • prohibition against the supply, sale, transfer or carriage of arms or related materiel to certain persons;
 
  • prohibition against the provision of assistance, advice or training related to military activities in certain circumstances;
 
  • prohibition against making available to, or for the benefit of, certain persons or entities any funds or other financial assets or economic resources;
 
  • prohibition against dealing with funds or other financial assets or economic resources belonging to, or owned or controlled by, certain persons or entities; and
 
  • prohibition against the entry into or transit through the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region by certain persons.
     
     The Amendment Regulation also amends the notification requirement concerning relevant exemptions of arms embargo.
