Contractor fined for violation of safety legislation

     Kan Cheung Decoration Company Limited was fined $117,000 at Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (September 19) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on August 18, 2021, in an elderly home under renovation in Fortress Hill, Hong Kong. A worker, while carrying out air-conditioning installation work, was suspected to have fallen from a metal scaffold to the ground and sustained a head injury. The worker passed away three weeks later.
