CSSA caseload for August 2022

     The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in August showed a drop of 698 cases, representing a decrease of 0.3 per cent compared with that of July, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (September 19).
      
     The total CSSA caseload at the end of August stood at 210 367 (see attached table), with a total of 296 887 recipients.
      
     Analysed by case nature, low-earnings cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 1.3 per cent to 1 986 cases. Single parent cases decreased by 1.0 per cent to 23 126 cases. Old age cases dropped by 0.5 per cent to 118 129 cases. Permanent disability cases slightly decreased by 0.2 per cent to 17 356 cases.
      
     Unemployment cases decreased by 0.4 per cent on a month-to-month basis to 18 561 cases. The figure represented an increase of about 47.4 per cent in comparison with that of January 2020 when Hong Kong just started to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The average number of applications for unemployment cases in June to August 2022 was 484 per month, representing a decrease of 3.2 per cent from that in May to July 2022.
      
     Ill-health cases increased by 0.7 per cent to 27 202 cases.
