Contractors fined for violation of safety legislation

     Paul Y. General Contractors Limited, Shui Wing Construction Company Limited, Sun Luen Metal Engineering Limited and a contractor were fined $120,000, $130,000, $80,000 and $130,000 respectively at Fanling Magistrates' Courts today (September 13) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Management) Regulation. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on July 6, 2021, in a construction site at Queen's Hill, Fanling. While a worker was cutting an I-beam at a trench, the I-beam collapsed and struck and killed another worker who was cutting a sheet pile at the trench.
