Government increases COVID-19 vaccination quota for children
************************************************************
The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mrs Ingrid Yeung, said today (September 8) that as the applicable age of the Vaccine Pass will be lowered to 5 years old, the Government will increase the BioNTech vaccination quota for children aged 5 to 11 starting from tomorrow (September 9) and online booking can be made from now on.

To tie in with the arrangement of the increased vaccination quota, more vaccination booths have been set up at the Children Community Vaccination Centres (CCVCs) at Hong Kong Children's Hospital and Osman Ramju Sadick Memorial Sports Centre. Starting from September 11, the HKU CCVC at Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong, which has been serving children on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, will extend its service to provide the BioNTech vaccine to children aged 5 to 11 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The BioNTech vaccine for children aged 5 to 11 requires a special dilution procedure and they can only receive the BioNTech vaccine at the four CCVCs at present.

As for the Sinovac vaccine, the Government has expanded the free vaccination network for the Sinovac vaccine over the past two months to cater for the vaccination demand from children and other age groups. The Government will continue to closely monitor the vaccination situation and adjust the service as appropriate.

"In view of the recent accelerated trend of the epidemic, I appeal to parents to act fast and arrange vaccination with the required number of vaccine doses for their children on time. Following the update of the applicable age of the Vaccine Pass, we anticipate that more people would hurry to receive vaccination nearer the effective date. Parents are advised to arrange vaccination for their children early to avoid having the children fail to meet the requirement of the Vaccine Pass before the effective date due to the full quota of the selected vaccination venue for them," Mrs Yeung added.
