Catering Industry Safety Promotional Campaign 2022/2023 launched

     The Catering Industry Safety Promotional Campaign 2022/2023 has been officially launched today (September 1). The first phase of promotional activities including the Safety Video Competition and Safety Quiz are open for registration until October 15.

     The campaign, jointly organised by the Labour Department (LD) and the Occupational Safety and Health Council (OSHC), aims to enhance the awareness of workplace safety and health among employers, employees, industry players in the catering industry and the general public, as well as encourage the catering industry to create a safer and healthier working environment, and make occupational safety and health an important part of work.
      
     All catering establishments in Hong Kong are welcome to participate in the Safety Video Competition. They will compete for awards in five categories, including Chinese Restaurants, Restaurants (Non-Chinese), Hotels with Kitchen, Fast Food Shops and Cafes and Light Refreshments Eating Places and Canteens. Participating restaurants are required to produce a short video with the theme of Let's Do Our Part for Catering Safety. There will be gold, silver, bronze and meritorious prizes in each category and each winner will receive a trophy and a cash coupon.

     Participating establishments are required to hold valid licences issued by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) on or before October 15 and they should not have recorded any serious or fatal industrial accidents or received any Suspension Notices issued by the LD in the 12 months preceding the enrolment deadline. 
            
     In addition, the campaign also features a Safety Quiz. Catering establishments or members of the public aged 15 or above can participate as catering establishments or individuals category respectively. Participants will have to answer 10 catering industry-related occupational health and safety questions in the quiz competition form and submit to the organisers. The top 20 participants scoring the highest marks in each category will be awarded cash coupons.

     Apart from the LD and the OSHC, the other nine co-organisers of the activities include the Occupational Deafness Compensation Board, the Hong Kong Catering Industry Association, the Hong Kong Hotels Association, the Hong Kong Federation of Restaurants & Related Trades, the Association of Restaurant Managers, the Institute of Dining Professionals, The Association for Hong Kong Catering Services Management Ltd., the Food and Beverage Management and Professional Staff Association and the Eating Establishment Employees General Union.
           
     Those who are interested in participating in the Safety Video Competition and Safety Quiz may obtain forms and brochures from the Occupational Safety and Health Branch Offices of the LD, or the OSHC at 19/F, China United Centre, 28 Marble Road, North Point.
