Experience Hong Kong - a fascinating extravaganza filled with sounds, sights and tastes of Hong Kong - was held in Sydney, Australia, today (August 27) for members of the public to share the joy of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Over 10 000 people attended the event.

Organised by the New South Wales Chapter of the Hong Kong Australia Business Association and supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney (Sydney ETO), Experience Hong Kong was held at the Hordern Pavilion in Moore Park, Sydney, to offer Sydneysiders a fun-filled day with a unique Hong Kong cultural and culinary experience.

Food stalls delivering signature Hong Kong delicacies, as well as activities including a lion dance, martial arts, tai chi and a Chinese calligraphy demonstration, were presented for visitors to enjoy. Free rides on two vintage Hong Kong double-decker buses were also popular highlights at the event.

Addressing the event in a virtual speech, the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Kevin Yeung, said that with the dedication of the Government in recent years, Hong Kong is definitely one of the most important cultural and sports hubs in the world.

In addition to highlighting the West Kowloon Cultural District as one of the world's largest cultural projects and the newly opened M+ museum and Hong Kong Palace Museum, Mr Yeung also shared with the participants the latest sports developments of Hong Kong.

"Hong Kong athletes have achieved great success in the recent Olympic Games. The Government is now building a new Kai Tak Sports Park featuring a 50 000-seat main stadium and a 10 000-seat indoor arena, as well as a water sports centre on the southern shores of Hong Kong Island," Mr Yeung said.

"With the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens set to return this November, I can tell you that our city cannot wait to witness the exceptional atmosphere at the event again," he added.

The Director of the Sydney ETO, Miss Trista Lim, said in her welcoming remarks that the 25th anniversary of the HKSAR's establishment is an important milestone for Hong Kong. Experience Hong Kong was a good occasion to showcase the uniqueness of Hong Kong's arts and culture, echoing the National 14th Five-Year Plan, which clearly supports Hong Kong to develop as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange.
