Fatal traffic accident in Western District
     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Western District this morning (August 24) in which a 65-year-old man died.

     At about 11.59am, a tram driven by a 57-year-old man was travelling along Des Voeux Road West westbound. When approaching the junction of Des Voeux Road West and Centre Street, it reportedly knocked down the 65-year-old man who was crossing the road.

     Sustaining serious head injuries, the man was rushed to Queen Mary Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 12.39pm.

     The tram driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death. He was released on bail and is required to report back to Police in late September.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island is underway.
