***************************************************************

The Social Welfare Department (SWD) announced today (August 24) that, in light of the rising number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 recently, the holding centre at Harbour Road Sports Centre will commence operation on September 1.

The holding centre at Harbour Road Sports Centre will receive elderly COVID-19 patients who are asymptomatic or showing mild symptoms. With 130 beds, the centre provides basic meals and nursing support without charge. The Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon, will form a care team to provide temporary care services at the centre, while Quality HealthCare will provide medical support. The SWD expresses gratitude to the organisations and teams for providing care services and medical support to the centre.

The holding centres at Shek Kip Mei Park Sports Centre and Siu Sai Wan Sports Centre set up by the SWD came into operation on June 25, while the holding centre at Tin Shui Wai Sports Centre will commence operation tomorrow (August 25). The SWD will continue to monitor the development of the epidemic closely. If necessary, and upon liaison with relevant bureaux and departments, the SWD will swiftly mobilise resources and prepare venues to activate other holding centres or quarantine facilities.
