Government receives final report on power cable incident from CLP Power Hong Kong Limited

With assistance from an independent third-party expert, the Government is examining the report, including assessing whether the identified cause is well-founded and rectification measures are appropriate, and will request CLP Power to make clarifications or provide further information where required. The Government has also requested CLP Power to make known to the public details of the report at an opportune time.
Attaching great importance to the safety and reliability of the electricity supply, the Government requested CLP Power to conduct an in-depth investigation. It has been monitoring the investigation and the implementation of remedial measures. Under the Electricity Ordinance (Cap. 406), the Government monitors the power companies to ensure the safe and reliable supply of electricity in Hong Kong. The Ordinance stipulates the power and responsibility of electricity suppliers, including, in the case of an electrical accident, giving the Director a report of the cause and what remedial action has been, or will be done, to prevent a recurrence of the accident.
In relation to this incident, the Government requested CLP Power to submit an interim report in three days (i.e. on June 24) and a detailed report in two weeks (i.e. on July 6) after the incident. The Government received the interim report and the detailed report from CLP Power on the above-mentioned dates respectively. As to the cause of the accident, since it took time for the experts to perform detailed tests on the collected samples and carry out an analysis, CLP Power required more time to prepare the final report.
