The Government announced today (August 3) the launch of "Dress Casual Fridays" starting from this week. To encourage and facilitate government employees to take part in more sports and recreational activities during spare time, government employees may dress sporty or casual for work on Fridays.

The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mrs Ingrid Yeung, said, "We strongly encourage government employees to take part in sports and physical activities during spare time so as to upkeep their physical and mental health and to maintain work life balance. As the Sport for All Day this year will take place this Sunday (August 7), we are launching 'Dress Casual Fridays' this week to support colleagues to develop the habit of doing regular physical exercise."

The Civil Service Bureau issued an e-mail to all bureaux and departments today to launch "Dress Casual Fridays". Apart from announcing the initiative, the bureau also took the opportunity to recommend a number of Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Department of Health designated websites about the health benefits of exercising as well as details of the Sport For All Day 2022.

The implementation of "Dress Casual Fridays" does not apply to staff required to wear uniforms or working clothes for operational needs, or wear formal attire for attending important events.
