Chief Executive Officer to leave the Securities and Futures Commission

     Upon announcement by the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) today (July 8) that its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Ashley Alder, will leave the SFC in late 2022, the Government expresses gratitude to Mr Alder for his dedicated service and remarkable contributions made in the past eleven years as CEO of the SFC, and wishes him all the best in his future endeavours.
 
     Since his first appointment as the CEO of the SFC in October 2011, Mr Alder has made zealous efforts in fostering strong regulatory structure and functions at the SFC, and taken forward a range of policy and operational reforms. Mr Alder's leadership has helped the SFC ride out many challenges amidst a fast-changing and challenging financial landscape locally and globally. The SFC under his steer has also made many achievements in developing the local financial markets as well as enhancing mutual access and connectivity with financial markets in the Mainland and around the world. As CEO of the SFC, Mr Alder has also chaired the Board of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) since 2016.
 
     The Government will continue to work with the SFC to maintain a world-class regulatory environment for Hong Kong to thrive as an open, transparent and robust premier international financial centre. 
 
     The Government will soon commence a global recruitment process to identify a new CEO for the SFC. A separate announcement will be made in due course.
