DH investigates suspected case of sepsis

The Department of Health (DH) is today (July 7) investigating a suspected case of sepsis after receiving intravenous injection of glutathione, and again reminded the public that intravenous injection should only be performed by healthcare professionals.
The DH was notified by the Hospital Authority yesterday (July 6) of a suspected case of sepsis after receiving intravenous injection of glutathione in a premises in Yau Ma Tei by a suspected non-healthcare personnel. The female patient, aged 25 with good past health, had presented with fever and headache shortly after the injection. She attended the Accident and Emergency Department of North Lantau Hospital on July 5 and was transferred and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Princess Margaret Hospital on the same day. The clinical diagnosis was suspected sepsis. Her condition is currently stable.
According to the information provided by the patient, she had attended this premises to receive intravenous injection of glutathione for 10 times and she received the last injection on July 5. Investigation is ongoing.
The DH urged the public not to receive any treatment, in particular intravenous injection, by non-healthcare personnel. For those who had received any intravenous injections and feel unwell or develop symptoms such as fever, they should seek medical attention immediately.
