Update on cluster of Enterovirus/Rhinovirus cases in Tuen Mun Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of residents infected with Enterovirus/Rhinovirus in a paediatric and adolescent medicine ward, the spokesperson for Tuen Mun Hospital gave the following update today (July 7):

     Two more male residents of the same ward (aged 4 and 6) have presented with fever or upper respiratory symptoms since June 30. Appropriate tests were arranged and their test results were positive for Enterovirus/Rhinovirus. The test result of one of them was positive for Enterovirus/Rhinovirus and Adenovirus. The two patients are being treated under isolation with stable condition.

     Enhanced infection control measures have already been adopted in the ward concerned according to prevailing guidelines. Droplet and contact precautions, hand hygiene, cleaning and disinfection for the environment and equipment have also been strengthened.

     The hospital will continue to closely monitor the situation in the ward concerned. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow-up.
