Change of operating hours of Shenzhen Bay Control Point for passenger clearance
*******************************************************************************
A Government spokesman announced today (July 7) that the operating hours of the Shenzhen Bay Control Point (SBCP) for passenger clearance will change to 9am to 8pm daily with effect from July 8 (Friday) until further notice.

Having regard to the latest epidemic developments in the Mainland and Hong Kong, and in light of Mainland's relaxation on the quarantine period and the increase in the daily quota for Shenzhen quarantine hotels, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government and the Shenzhen Municipal Government have, after deliberation, agreed to extend the operating hours of the SBCP for passenger clearance from July 8. It aims to assist cross-boundary travellers with genuine needs to travel (e.g. for business purposes or for visiting relatives) without posing an additional health risk to the two places.

In addition, the spokesman reminded outbound travellers that the Government has been providing an additional rapid polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based nucleic acid test for outbound travellers at land boundary control points (including the SBCP) since March 21, 2022. Only those who receive a negative result can continue with their journeys. The Government provides the aforementioned special testing service for free at the SBCP from one hour before the opening of the control point (i.e. 8am) till 90 minutes before the closure of the control point (i.e. 6.30pm). The spokesman indicated that the process of the rapid PCR-based nucleic acid test will take about two hours, and travellers should pay attention to the opening hours of the relevant control point as well as the operating hours of the chosen transportation. They should arrive at the control point at least two hours in advance so that they will have sufficient time to complete their clearance procedures after obtaining a negative test result, for continuing with the journey as planned. Travellers should also note the potential overwhelming demand for the special testing service during the initial opening hours of the control point, as it may warrant longer waiting time.

The spokesman added that cargo clearance services at the SBCP will continue to operate on a 24-hour basis.

At present, the SBCP and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port are still providing passenger clearance services among the land BCPs. In view of the epidemic developments, the HKSAR Government and the Shenzhen Municipal Government have adjusted the operating hours of the SBCP for passenger clearance several times. The two Governments will continue to closely monitor the epidemic developments and the service demand, and will adjust the operating hours of the control points as necessary.
