Secretary for Housing visits Tai Po public housing project and Tsz Ching Estate (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
The Secretary for Housing, Ms Winnie Ho, today (July 7) visited a public rental housing (PRH) development project in Tai Po and Tsz Ching Estate in Tsz Wan Shan to learn about the distribution arrangements of COVID-19 rapid antigen test (RAT) kits in PRH estates by the Housing Department in response to sewage testing results. She also gave encouragement to frontline cleaning workers and property management staff and thanked them for their efforts in supporting the anti-epidemic work.

To grasp the latest progress of PRH development projects, Ms Ho first visited Tai Po Area 9 in the morning, and was briefed by staff members of the Housing Department on project details and progress. Eight PRH buildings (Blocks 2 to 9 of Fu Tip Estate) are being constructed to provide about 6 700 flats. Together with a public transport terminus and the estate's facilities, completion is expected in the third quarter of 2023.

Ban Tip House (containing about 650 flats), Block 1 of Fu Tip Estate, situated nearby in Chung Nga Road East, has been completed earlier and the tenant intake started in the fourth quarter of 2021. Upon full completion, Fu Tip Estate will become the largest PRH project in Tai Po District, providing homes to about 20 000 residents.

She stressed, "Housing is the utmost priority of the new term of government. Through close monitoring of construction progress, streamlining procedures, introducing innovative technology and welcoming views from the construction sector, the efficiency of housing production could be further enhanced."

Ms Ho then proceeded to the Tsz Ching Estate Office, and was briefed by estate staff on the arrangements and workflow of the distribution of RAT kits. She thanked frontline cleaning workers and property management staff for their hard work and full commitment to support the anti-epidemic work, enhancing the estate's cleaning and environmental hygiene. She also expressed the hope that they would undergo testing with the RAT kits to safeguard the health of themselves and their families.

In light of positive test results for the COVID-19 virus from sewage samples collected in Wong Tai Sin District, the Housing Department is distributing about 65 000 RAT kits to residents, cleaning workers and property management staff in Tsz Ching Estate for them to take the test on their own.

"For early identification of infected persons to reduce the transmission risks of COVID-19, I hope members of the public would undergo testing on a voluntary basis and fight the virus together," she said.
