Community Oral History Theatre Project - Kowloon City District "Watch How She Flies" finales to be staged in August
***************************************************************

The Community Oral History Theatre Project - Kowloon City District (the project) will conclude with finale performances of "Watch How She Flies", to be staged in August at the Kwai Tsing Theatre. The performances will feature the personal life experiences of a group of neighbours living in Kowloon City, once a lawless enclave for fugitives and criminal gangs.

Started in 2019, the project is co-organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), Chung Ying Theatre Company, Yan Chai Hospital Ng Wong Yee Man Neighbourhood Elderly Centre and Caritas Elderly Centre - Sai Kung. Through organising a series of workshops, the project gathered the personal experiences and valuable recollections of elderly persons from the Kowloon City District to come up with a drama script and provide an opportunity for them to perform their stories onstage.

The drama "Watch How She Flies" (in Cantonese) will be staged at the Black Box Theatre of the Kwai Tsing Theatre on August 6 (Saturday) at 3pm and 7.30pm, and on August 7 (Sunday) at 3pm. Tickets priced at $60 will be available from tomorrow (July 8) at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk). For credit card telephone bookings, please call 2111 5999.

For programme enquiries and concessionary schemes, please call 2591 1300 (LCSD) and 8106 8336 (Chung Ying Theatre Company), or visit www.abo.gov.hk.

Since its launch in 2009, the Community Oral History Theatre Project has been implemented in several districts, namely Sham Shui Po, Kwun Tong, Islands (Tai O), Eastern, Sha Tin, Central and Western, and Sai Kung Districts. It has been well received by elderly participants and audiences. The project encourages the elderly to participate in arts and cultural activities, and provides them with an opportunity to recount and perform their stories onstage. In addition, it allows younger generations to understand the previous generations and community changes through performances, and encourages them to reflect on their own lives.

In order to comply with the requirements stipulated in the Prevention and Control of Disease (Requirements and Directions) (Business and Premises) Regulation (Cap. 599F) and relevant requirements of administrative instructions, members of the public are required to scan the "LeaveHomeSafe" venue QR code with their mobile phones/other mobile devices before being allowed to enter the performance venues managed by the LCSD, for necessary contact tracing if a confirmed case is found.
