City Gallery's "Envisioning Beyond Legacy" exhibition to celebrate HKSAR 25th anniversary (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the exhibition "Envisioning Beyond Legacy", jointly presented by the Development Bureau and the Planning Department, will be open to the public from tomorrow (July 6) until November 30 at City Gallery and the adjoining Edinburgh Place in Central.

The Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan; the Deputy Financial Secretary, Mr Michael Wong; the Secretary for Development, Ms Bernadette Linn; the Acting Permanent Secretary for Development (Planning and Lands), Mr Vic Yau; and the Director of Planning, Mr Ivan Chung, officiated at the opening ceremony today (July 5).

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Chung said, "The 'Envisioning Beyond Legacy' exhibition shows that, despite the numerous challenges encountered by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region since its establishment, we shall embrace new opportunities with our undaunted spirit and collaborative efforts on planning and development, and together we will build a better future."

He highlighted that the "Building a New Era for Hong Kong" exhibit is equipped with Hong Kong's first-ever large-scale interactive LED screen to showcase the planning and infrastructure of Hong Kong, featuring various development highlights including the Northern Metropolis, the Artificial Islands in the Central Waters, the Airport City, culture and sports, harbourfront enhancement, urban revitalisation, and infrastructures for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), as well as the future development directions for Hong Kong.

The three development directions of Hong Kong are liveability, competitiveness and sustainable development, he added.

Another exhibit introduces the planning concept and infrastructure development proposal of the Artificial Islands in the Central Waters. Visitors have the opportunity to become town planners and plan for their ideal third Core Business District of Hong Kong through the "Build the Islands of the Future" game. The real-time proposals from the visitors will be added to the simulated islands model and will be displayed on the screen. The collected ideas will also be incorporated into the big data repository for reference by the study team.

The outdoor exhibition zone "Gateway to Future" in Edinburgh Place integrates fun facts related to the sea, land and air infrastructure development of Hong Kong into a board game, illustrating the infrastructural achievements of Hong Kong, the interconnection with the GBA and Hong Kong's important role as an international gateway.

This exhibition has free admission. Members of District Councils, professional organisations, schools and more will be invited to visit the exhibition, and a series of activities will also be held to enhance the public understanding of future planning and infrastructure development in Hong Kong.
