The Director-General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London, Mr Gilford Law attended a banquet organised by the Confederation of Chinese Associations UK in Birmingham, the United Kingdom (UK), to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on June 28 (London time). The event was attended by over 250 participants from the Chinese community in the UK.

In his speech, Mr Law gave the attendees an update on the latest development of Hong Kong from chaos to stability, and the role of Hong Kong in integrating with the development of the Mainland economy.  He stressed that the "One Country, Two Systems" principle is the cornerstone of HKSAR's prosperity and stability.

Mr Law said, "With the dual advantages of 'One Country' and 'Two Systems', Hong Kong has an integral role to play in the development blueprint laid out in the National 14th Five-Year Plan and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Hong Kong will proactively become a 'participant' in domestic circulation and a 'facilitator' of international circulation under the 'dual circulation' development paradigm, which will provide continuous impetus to Hong Kong's economy."

Mr Law also encouraged Chinese community in the UK to make good use of the new opportunities brought by Hong Kong's integration with the Mainland economy.
