Fatal traffic accident in Kwai Chung

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Kwai Chung yesterday morning (June 28) in which a 46-year-old man died.

     At 11.13am, a bus driven by a 52-year-old man, a medium goods vehicle (MGV) driven by a 72-year-old man and a light goods vehicle (LGV) driven by the 46-year-old man were travelling along Kwai Chung Road towards Tsuen Wan. When approaching MTR Lai King Station, the bus reportedly stopped to cope with a passenger’s enquiry, the subsequent MGV slowed down but the LGV failed to stop and collided with the MGV, the MGV then rammed into the bus.

     The LGV driver was trapped inside the vehicle and was rescued by firemen. Sustaining serious leg injuries, he was rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 12.34pm. The MGV driver, a 54-year-old bus male passenger were sent to Princess Margaret Hospital for medical treatment in conscious state.

     The bus driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death. He is being detained for further enquiries.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South is underway.

     Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers on 3661 1348 or 3661 1300.

     Police strongly condemn the irresponsible driving behaviour of the driver. It not only jeopardises the safety of other road users and threatens ones’ personal safety, but is also the actual cause of serious traffic accidents. Police do not tolerate such acts and will take resolute enforcement action.
