Secretary-General of University Grants Committee tests positive for COVID-19

The following is issued on behalf of the University Grants Committee:

     A spokesman for the University Grants Committee (UGC) Secretariat said today (June 27) that the Secretary-General of the UGC, Professor James Tang, had tested positive for COVID-19 through a nucleic acid test. Professor Tang is undergoing isolation in accordance with the guidelines of the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health.

     Professor Tang last went to work on June 24. He wore masks and followed relevant disease prevention measures at work, including rapid antigen tests conducted regularly with negative results obtained. He has no recent travel history.

     The UGC Secretariat has conducted thorough cleaning and disinfection at the office concerned and will continue to implement disease prevention measures vigorously, including requesting staff members to conduct rapid antigen tests on a regular basis. All staff members have also been reminded to pay attention to personal hygiene and stay vigilant at all times.
