The prize presentation ceremony for the Taxi Service Commendation Scheme 2019 and 2021, jointly organised by the Committee on Taxi Service Quality (CTSQ) and the Transport Department (TD), was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre today (June 24).

Among a total of about 450 nominated taxi drivers for the Taxi Service Commendation Scheme 2019 and 2021, 10 and 20 drivers were selected as "Quality Taxi Drivers" respectively by the assessment panel, which was comprised of the non-trade members of the CTSQ and relevant government departments, in recognition of their service excellency and endeavours to provide quality taxi services to passengers. Among these taxi drivers, "Most Popular Taxi Driver" awards were also presented to the two taxi drivers with the highest votes in the public online voting.

Meanwhile, in recognition of the efforts to improve taxi service quality proactively, and manage the taxi fleets and drivers in an effective manner to provide quality taxi services to passengers, the assessment panel also selected three "Quality Taxi Service Management Teams" respectively for the Scheme of 2019 and 2021 with reference to management on taxi service quality, the application of advanced technology in enhancing the efficiency and quality of taxi service, and their social responsibility.

A new "Good Driver, Good Service" award has been introduced to the Scheme in 2021 to commend a taxi driver providing exceptional service to passengers during the ride. The assessment panel selected one winner of the "Good Driver, Good Service" award in accordance with three assessment criteria, including the assistance provided to the passenger by the driver, the impact of the incident to the taxi industry and the distinctiveness of the incident.

Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, the CTSQ Chairman and the Commissioner for Transport, Miss Rosanna Law, was pleased to observe the continued rise in the participation rate of the Scheme by the taxi drivers and the general public which indicated that the public is in support of appreciating taxi drivers and management teams providing quality services. She called on the trade to work together to provide quality services.

The TD has been highly concerned about the quality of taxi drivers, including their health and driving attitude. The TD arranged one-off free health check services specifically for taxi drivers last year, and holds a "Safe Driving and Health Campaign" every year to disseminate safe driving messages and health tips. Taxi Newsletters were distributed to taxi drivers through taxi trade associations and unions to remind them of safe driving. The TD also distributed Road Safety Bulletins to remind motorists to be attentive and avoid using mobile phones and smart devices while driving.
