Appointments to Board of Ocean Park Corporation announced

     The Government announced today (June 17) that the Chief Executive has appointed Mr Paulo Pong Kin-yee and Mr Stephen Wong See-yuen as the Chairman and the Deputy Chairman respectively of the Board of the Ocean Park Corporation (OPC). The Chief Executive has also appointed eight new members and re-appointed seven incumbent members to the Board. All the appointments are for a term of two years from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2024.

     The newly appointed non-official members are Mr Raymond Chow Ming-joe, Ms Ivy Lee Siu-wing, Mr Jonathan Leung Chun, Dr Ma Kwan-ki, Mr Simon Siu Chak-yu, Professor Gray A Williams and Mr Simon Wong Hin-wing, while the Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation (or representative) has been appointed as a new official member. 

     Incumbent members Ms Joanne Cheung Shui-lin, Ms Maureen Fung Sau-yim, Mr Enoch Lam Tin-sing, Ms Stephanie Poon, Mrs Bonnie Woo Chan Tak-chi, the Permanent Secretary for Development (Works) (or representative) and the Commissioner for Tourism (or representative) have been re-appointed.

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Edward Yau, said, "Being the incumbent Deputy Chairman who joined the Board in 2019, Mr Pong has actively participated in charting the future strategy of Ocean Park and other important development projects of the OPC. With his rich commercial experience, in-depth understanding of the future strategy and strong devotion, he is an eminently suitable candidate to assume the chairmanship of the Board."

     Mr Yau said, "I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Mr Lau Ming-wai, the outgoing Chairman, for his strong commitment and astute leadership in steering the OPC Board. Mr Lau has served on the OPC Board in different capacities for a total of 14 years. With his profound knowledge of the Park and passion in driving the Park's development, Mr Lau has been leading the Park to embrace its many challenges and supporting the formulation of the future strategy, making important contributions to charting a new path for the Park."

     Mr Yau also thanked the retired or outgoing members, namely Ms Michelle Cheng, Ms Loretta Fong Wan-huen, Mrs Ann Kung Yeung Yun-chi and Mr Vincent Ng Wing-shun, for their strong support and invaluable contributions to the Board during their tenure.

     He said that the Government will continue to work with the OPC to proactively implement the future strategy for Ocean Park with a view to transforming it into a resort and leisure destination with a focus on conservation and education, grounded in nature and complemented by adventure and leisure elements to enhance the visitor experience.

     The OPC is a statutory body established under the Ocean Park Corporation Ordinance (Cap. 388) to manage Ocean Park as a public recreational, educational and conservational park.
